Final call for grant applications to honour veterans
The Queensland Government is delivering more support for Queensland veterans and is encouraging eligible organisations to apply for the inaugural Honouring our Veterans program, with funding available for upgrades to memorials and community events.
Ex-service organisations, schools and community groups can apply for the new grants, which will ensure the service and stories of veterans and their families are preserved and recognised across Queensland.
Grants can be used for building improvements, creating or refurbishing war memorials, avenues of honour, memorial gardens, and buying equipment, as well as events, activities, and initiatives which honour our veterans.
The Queensland Government’s Honouring our Veterans program will deliver $6 million in grants over four years, and applications for 2025 close this Friday 14 November.
Queensland is home to the largest population of veterans in Australia with more than 163,000 current serving and former Australian Defence Force personnel living here.
The Queensland Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland veterans, with $26.4 million in the 2025-26 Budget to honour and commemorate the contribution of veterans and to support veterans and their families.
The Queensland Government is also developing the State’s first Queensland Veterans and Veterans’ Families Strategy to identify emerging needs and boost support, with public consultation concluding this week.
Face-to-face forums will take place in Toowoomba tomorrow (12 November), and Brisbane on Friday (14 November), while the online survey also closes on 14 November.
Premier and Minister for Veterans David Crisafulli said the Government was delivering a fresh start for Queenslanders, exactly as promised.
“We are delivering a plan for Queensland’s future, and more support to ensure our brave veterans and their families are recognised and remembered,” Premier Crisafulli said.
“This Remembrance Day we are honouring veterans who have given up so much and these grants are about giving back.
“We are backing veterans and their families with practical support like events, as well as improved memorials, to ensure our heroes are honoured into the future in communities across Queensland.
“While we are delivering a plan for veterans, there is much more to be done to deliver for Queensland’s future, and we remain committed to delivering the fresh start we promised.”
