Games legacy enshrined with new laws

The Crisafulli Government will end more than 1,200 days of Games chaos and within 100 days deliver a bold plan for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics, following the introduction of legislation today.

Delivering on a commitment to establish an independent Games coordination authority in the first month of government, the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games Arrangements and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 will enable the appointment of the Authority and commencement of a 100-day review.

The rescoped Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority’s core focus will be planning and delivering infrastructure, transport, and legacy projects, to enhance liveability and sustain future growth for Queenslanders.

Premier David Crisafulli said introducing the new laws was the Fresh Start Queensland needed to end the Games chaos and start delivering a world-class event.

“Hosting the Games brings unique opportunities to forge ahead with generational infrastructure, transport and sustainable economic growth to set our State up for a bright and prosperous future,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“Not only will these laws enable the 100-Day Review, but it also establishes a clearer purpose for the Authority’s work around Games legacy, ensuring regional Queensland benefits from the Games.

“These amendments are about successfully delivering a Games Queenslanders can be proud of, focused on driving a lasting legacy right across the State.”
