    Urban congestion

South East Queensland is Australia’s fastest growing region. However, with this growth comes a price – urban congestion.

    Easing urban congestion

Urban congestion is caused by traffic, freight and commuter demand that outweighs the capacity of the road and public transport system.

The Queensland Government is working with all levels of government, industry, the community and an international congestion expert to implement a balanced approach to deal with urban congestion.

Some of the ways the government is currently dealing with congestion in South East Queensland include:

    • spending record funds to build more roads, busways and cycleways and improve the public transport system.
    • implementing initiatives under five key elements that are aimed at changing the way people travel. Read more about these initiatives.
